Katie Melua, a unique and remarkable vocalist/guitarist known and loved for singing open-hearted ballads, has sold more than 10 million albums to date - no small feat for a singer on an independent record label. She continues her extraordinary journey with the May 5th US release of Pictures, an album that delighted her legion of fans and was embraced by the media upon its release in the UK. To mark the occasion, Katie kicks off a US solo acoustic tour on during BritWeek on May 3 at Hotel Café in Los Angeles.

Since the release of Katie’s debut album Call Off The Search in 2003, the 24 year old has achieved astonishing success. With the help of lead track, Closest Thing to Crazy, she shot to the top of the UK album charts and became the biggest selling female artist for the next two years in Britain. Her sophomore album, the critically-acclaimed Piece By Piece, was even more successful, spawning the hit single Nine Million Bicycles and selling 3.5 million, making Katie the biggest selling UK female artist in the World in 2005. In December 2007, she topped the charts in a duet with her idol, the late Eva Cassidy, entitled What A Wonderful World, with proceeds to support the British Red Cross.

Born in Georgia (former USSR) in 1984, Katie lived in Belfast for five years before settling in South East London. She has a Dutch tulip named in her honor, set a Guinness World Record for deepest underwater concert, actively supports charitable organizations such as Save The Children and Nelson Mandela’s AIDs Charity and has been recognized with a World Music Award, Golden Camera Award, and two German Echo Awards.
